Not at all! Due to its thermal regulation, Cashmere can be worn in mild temperatures as well.
The very cheap cashmere made from leftovers of the primary production tend to pill very easily. However, even high-quality products will spawn these fuzzy balls when rubbed against other fabric. If you are wearing your cashmere under a jacket or coat, you will risk experiencing issues with pilling.
Pashmina is made from Cashmere, traditionally sourced from India, Nepal & Pakistan. Pashmina is not necessarily rarer or softer than other cashmere items sourced from China & Mongolia. The term pashmina is also widely misused now to include shawls made from variety of fabrics.
A cashmere goat produces no more than 200-300 grams of cashmere a year and is collected in spring, during the natural shedding season. It takes 3-4 goats to make just one coat. It’s a very finite resource, there is only a certain amount produced in the world. It is rare and therefore is priced accordingly.
Cashmere is hand combed or sheared from the cashmere goats during spring when they naturally shed their winter coats. Cashmere goats are not harmed in the cashmere collection process.
While Italy is known for manufacturing garments from cashmere, the raw material comes from Cashmere Goats, predominantly from China & Mongolia, where the harsh winters provide the correct climate for the goats to grow long, fine cashmere fibers. Cashmere goats can also be found in other areas such as New Zealand, Australia, India, Iran, Turkey, Nepal and Afghanistan though their output is much smaller.
