Beyond the Scarf: Understanding Cashmere and Pashmina
Cashmere is a type of wool that is made from the hair of a certain type of goat native to the Himalayan Region in Central Asia, long considered to be one of the softest and most luxurious types of wool in existence. Cashmere is highly treasured as a material for sweaters, scarves, wraps, stoles and other light cold-weather gear.
On the other hand, Pashmina is the name of a textile from India used to make shawls/wraps. Pashmina is made from Cashmere, traditionally sourced from India, Nepal & Pakistan. Pashmina is not necessarily rarer or softer than other cashmere items sourced from China & Mongolia. The term pashmina is also widely misused now to include shawls made from a variety of fabrics
